- FLUSH -
- FLUSH.COM & FLushMarKer.COM
This pair of programs, FLUSH.COM & FLMK.COM, remove Terminate & Stay Resident
programs, free the memory allocated to them, display the amount of free memory
and display how many markers are left in memory.
There are two versions of the program. Use FLMK.COM and FLUSH.COM on Non-IBM
MS-DOS computers, and FLMKIBM.COM and FLUSHIBM.COM on genuine IBM computers.
These programs may not run correctly on all TANDY computers, so test the
programs before you use them on these machines.
Before running a TSR program, install a marker in memory by running FLMK.COM or
FLMKIBM.COM. When you need more memory, or a TSR interferes with another
program, you can remove the offending program or programs with FLUSH or
FLUSHIBM. Programs like SIDEKICK can remove themselves from memory, but they
don't release memory used by TSRs installed after them. That can lead to
serious problems, forcing you to reboot.
When you clear TSR programs from memory by running FLUSH, it clears the last
programs loaded first. If you use multiple markers, you can clear the memory
used by each program, one at a time, or in groups. Each time you run FLUSH, it
removes the programs installed after you marked memory with FLMK.COM.
Because IBM Compatibles don't have Basic in ROM, I did not save the Basic
Interrupt Vector Table in FLUSH Vers 1.02 but do so in Vers 1.IBM. The IBM
version requires another 512 bytes of RAM when installed.
The amount of free memory reported may differ slightly from that reported by
CHKDSK. I have tried FLUSH with PC-DOS 2.1, 3.1, 3.2, 3.3 and Hyperion MS-DOS
2.11 with no apparent problems.
The 5 program files included in this archive are:
o FLUSH.DOC The file you are reading.
o FLUSH.COM Vers 1.02
o FLMK.COM Vers 1.02
o FLUSHIBM.COM Vers 1.IBM
o FLMKIBM.COM Vers 1.IBM
To install FLUSH, copy the appropriate files for your PC onto a diskette or
into a directory on your hard disk used for utility programs. To make it easier
to use the program, the directory used should be one named in the PATH
statement in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file.
To Use FLUSH:
-------------
o Before installing a memory resident program, place a marker in
memory by giving the command: FLMK or FLMKIBM at the DOS
prompt.
o Install your TSR programs (separate them with markers if you
wish).
o When you want to remove the TSRs installed after a marker,
give the command: FLUSH or FLUSHIBM. The TSRs and the marker
are removed, freeing the memory they used.
This program is offered under the Shareware concept. If you find it useful,
please register your copy. The registration fee is $10. Your registration fees
will help me create new software and improve this program.
